A giant monk born in 1582 towers over the countryside just a short drive from Hua Hin city. This revered holy man is believed to have performed many miraculous activities, and people flock from across Thailand to pay their respects.

Of course, he’s not actually there, but Wat Huai Mongkon just off Highway 3219 features the largest statue in Thailand of him. There’s other attractions around the statue in a park-like environment, plus a cafe, deer park, shrines, religious reliquary shops, fish ponds etc.

The temple receives very few foreign visitors despite being only about 15km from Hua Hin.

The temple is easy to find on Google maps and is well worth visiting, and Wikipedia has a page about Luang Por Tuat (aka Thuat).
